Controlling Ball Circulation
One of the greatest design challenges in a sports board game is managing ball distribution. We wanted passing to carry real tactical weight rather than being used merely to stall the rhythm or maintain a safe, meaningless possession.
How the Mechanic Works
Whenever a passing duel takes place, the players from both teams who participated in it “freeze” within their zone for 1 round. This means they lose the right to move during the immediately following Movement Phase. This freeze applies strictly to passes and is never triggered by shots, corner kicks, free kicks, or penalties.

Tactical Opportunities and Bait Passes
During playtesting, this mechanism opened up completely new strategic horizons. An attacker can use a pass as a “bait”. By throwing a single player against multiple opponents in a zone and attempting a pass, the attacker sacrifices that specific unit’s mobility while simultaneously neutralizing several opposing tokens.
Natural Countermeasures
Naturally, the strict spatial capacity limit of 4 players total per zone (Cap 4) prevents any systemic abuse. Because of this ceiling, an attacker can only freeze a limited number of defenders at once, protecting the game from devolving into a static mass brawl. Thus, passing remains a sharp tool used to open up spaces and disrupt defenses before the final shot.
